Jharkhand, a state with large population of Indigenous tribes, live Mahlis. A tribe whose main occupation in basketry or bamboo product making. Most of the tribes live in the hilly areas of the Chotanagpur Plateau.
The villages of Jharkhand have many families of Mahli Tribe . This tribe’s forefathers have been practising bamboo craft since ages.
Earlier, these artisans used to make bamboo baskets, daliya,etc that was popular in local culture. But, since times changed the products they made were not making enough income. After, getting training from government, they started making more innovative products like bamboo planters, storage boxes, etc for getting better income.
